Position Announcement

The Department of Biology at the University of Oregon seeks a full-time tenure-track Assistant Professor to join the resident faculty at the Oregon Institute of Marine Biology (OIMB), starting September 2025. The OIMB is the University of Oregon's satellite campus and field station on the Oregon Coast, providing access to the marine environment for teaching, research, and public outreach, and this opportunity is located at the OIMB in Charleston, Oregon.

The ideal candidate will bring a research program addressing climate adaptation in the marine realm. Our goal is to attract an innovative, creative leader who seeks not merely to document climate change and organismic response, but to learn how organisms adapt to the kind of large-scale disruption wrought by climate change. The research focus may address any level from global-scale ecological adaptation, through biogeography and population dynamics, to physiology or reproduction and development. The successful candidate will be expected to establish an externally-funded research lab at the field station. It is a high priority to find a new colleague who will take advantage of the flora and fauna to which the OIMB provides access, including field or experimental approaches and developing research mentorship for both undergraduate and graduate students. Our new colleague will also teach at the field station and should expect to take a leading role in maximizing student access and experience at OIMB. At least one teaching assignment will involve experiential learning that integrates field or lab experience in a topical context appropriate to the new faculty member's specialty.

Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in scholarship and scientific productivity. Significant field station or expeditionary experience is a plus and should be highlighted. Applicants should also demonstrate a record of inclusivity and embrace the University of Oregon's imperative to promote diversity and equity across the academy and the broader community within which it is embedded. All materials must be submitted online through UO's Career Site. Application review will begin Dec. 1 and continue until the position is filled.
